Diamonds are a woman’s passion but there are only a handful of woman you know how to choose the right diamond. If you wish to buy one for your wife on this Valentine’s Day then read along to find out some intricacies about diamonds.

5 Important C’s to learn about
Cut
Color
Clarity
Carat Weight
Certification

CUT

Cut and Shape of diamonds are different. Diamonds are cut into a variety of shapes and the shapes depend on the quality of the stone. Diamonds, as you know, have a tendency to reflect light. It is the cut of the diamond that allows it to reflect light. Light is reflected from one facet to the other and finally dispersed at the top. A very deep or a shallow cut may not give the best light reflections. Diamonds are given various shapes of round, marquise, pear, emerald, oval and heart butt he essence of a diamond is only felt when the cut is immaculate and gives the sparkle that you desire. While cutting to precision the diamond may loose its size but it is better to have a sparkling diamond than a large one.

COLOR

Diamonds are clear and colorless crystalline form of carbon. Most diamonds have no color but there are diamonds with a range of colors like faint yellow or brown, some are even pink, blue and green. They are also available in other colors which are known as fancies.

Gift your wife a colorless diamond. It allows the light to pass through easily and helps the light to disperse as the color of rainbow. Basically colors are graded from totally colorless to light yellow. Your eyes may not be skilled enough to differentiate the various colors. The difference from one grade to the other is very faint and you may land up in buying the color that is not your choice. So either buy it with your wife or if you intend to surprise her then take help of someone who has knowledge.

CLARITY

If you wish to see your wife’s eyes sparkle then buy a diamond that is free from ‘inclusions’ and surface blemishes. Such diamonds are rare and expensive but they are worth the money when they sparkle with brilliance.
Inclusions, that I have mentioned, are tiny impurities which interfere with the light passing through the diamond. Diamonds with fewer inclusions are beautiful. No other gem stone can reflect light the way a diamond can.

CARATE –WEIGHT

The weight of diamond is measured in Carats. One carat of diamond is divided into 100 points; in that case a diamond of 75 points weighs 0.75 carats. It is possible that two diamonds weigh the same but their prices vary. The difference in price here would be because of cut, color and clarity. The finer the diamond the more it costs. She surely knows this so beware!! Don’t go for a cheap bargain!!

CERTIFICATION

A diamond certificate also known as a Diamond Dossier or Diamond Quality Document, is a report created by experienced gemologists. They evaluate measure and scrutinize the diamond and then furnish a certificate that provides details of the diamond’s dimensions, clarity, color, polish and other facts. When you purchase a diamond don’t forget to review the certificate.

Gift a sparkling diamond to your wife on this Valentine’s Day!!
